If you want to know more about
EKO we can
recommend the 2007 issue of the EKO catalogue
by
Frank Noeth.
More information here.

Additional information required:
- EKO also produced models for
other manufacturers, rumour has it that the first Praliné models (ref# 141: FIAT 242
and ref# 142: Fiat Fiorino) were also produced by EKO. Does anyone have
any information on this ?
- Any information on reference
numbers of the sets and set contents is welcome.
- Apparently EKO also released sets of civilian figures, we know of one set
sofar, #2207 'Policia de
Trafico' which contains several Spanish police officers, two on foot, two on motorbikes plus
two spare bikes. More information on these sets is very welcome !

Background
At the end of the 1950s, Blasco Industries
in Barcelona (Spain) started a series of miniature vehicles under the EKO name.
In total, there are about 200 referencenumbers known from the catalogues, but
the complete collection (H0 scale only, without counting the colourvariations)
is actually almost twice as large. Why? Because many of the models were never in
catalogues, for instance because they were issued when the catalogues had
already been printed, or because the models were special editions.
Caused by the semi-artisan character of EKO, we
can find models that do not seem original although they are, and vice versa.
That is because some of the models have painted details or parts added. This
semi-artisan character is also the reason for the fact that you can find two
sets of models with the same referencenumber but with different models, all
depending on the availability of the models at the time. To illustrate the
semi-artisan character, pictured here are three Seat 1800s, spot the differences....
For the first six models, there were two
different types of moulds. In the first type, the body of the model is moulded
in a single piece, and all windows and some details were painted silver
afterwards, the first models released originate from these moulds.
(Known models are a Volkswagen Beetle, Mercedes 300, Seat 1400,
Renault 4CV, a Rolls Royce and several trucks
without windows - most of them Wiking copies) These
original moulds were then either highly retouched (Renault 4/4, Seat 1400) or
just in small details (Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes and Opel) thus creating a
second type of mould. The windows of the models originating from these moulds
are transparent. Copies and imitations of foreign models were relatively common,
and among the copied models there were models originally made by Wiking and
Roskopf. A different case are the former Anguplas models, of which the moulds
were inherited by EKO in 1967. The EKO mould of the DKW van was not retouched
but replaced by the Anguplas mould some years later.
Early DKW model (single piece)
At first, there were many bi-colour cars of which
the second colour was hand painted. Other painted details are radiators, lights,
plates, shields and rims. These painted details disappeared some years later. The referencenumbers for which EKO moulds were
used are the numbers upto 2065 (Fiat/Seat 124). With one exception however,
number 2049. This reference, a 'Chevrolet Patrol US' has been announced
for many years but was never made, and the Mercedes W196 that was made from the
Anguplas mould finally received this referencenumber.

The other car models
Apart from the
'standard' models EKO has also released a series of Spanish taxis, these

models
Apart from the series of civilian models, there
was also a series of military models. Most of them were available in a dark
