In 1921, the year that Danhausen was established, the companies main lines of business were bicycles and motorbikes. The toys were just a matter of secundary importance, and this only changed after the second worldwar. In the 1970s, the owners of the company, the brothers Lang , decided to publish lists of modelcars. These lists were very popular and the brothers decided to not only issue a catalogue but also to start making carmodels. At first, they produced models in 1/43 scale which were sold under the 'SD-modelle' name. In 1975 the company joined forces with UK based Western Models and together they released the first models under the 'Minichamps' and 'Plumbies' label.
