Ribeirinho Simple hard plastic toys made in the 1960s by Ribeirinho Plasticos Lda. of Portugal, a company founded in 1905 by Manuel Teixeira under the name Fabrica De Pentes Do Ribeirinho. The factory was located in Guimaraes in the north of Portugal and started as a manufacturer of horn combs. After WW II Ribeirinho was one of the first to buy machines for the injection moulding of plastics, and Jose Machado Teixeira (the son of Manuel Teixeira) started making toys in bakelite and celluloid. The factory was most successfull in the 1950s and stopped producing toys in the 1970s. The factory was closed down in 1992. The models described here, probably Wiking copies, have hard plastic wheels and metal axles but except for the VW 1100 convertible and the Jaguar XK120 convertible they do not have glazing or interior. The models have a flat plastic baseplate without manufacturer information or detailling except for the Jaguar XK120 which is labelled 'Bristol' and the Borgward. The numbers used as ref# in the list are moulded on the inside of the baseplate. Thanks to Portuguese collector Joaquim Janeiro we are able to list the 8 models mentioned here, but there may have been more models. Joaquim told us that there were other colours as well and that the models were sold without boxes.
