Widea
MDC-R
Die-cast and plastic ready-made models sold in transparent plastic cases in which they are held
with a screw. The plastic parts on the models are chromed. Apart from the ref#
and the brandname there is no other information on the bottomplates but the
models are made in Hongkong. The first models (Morris Minor and both Nash
models) appeared
on the market just after the 2003 Nuremberg Toyfair but are relatively hard to
find. Other models were announced but these did not appear until January 2004,
when suddenly the Ford rally-cars were released.
(March 2004) The following information was
gathered thanks to the joint efforts of 87thScale.info messageboard members
Bjarte, Hans and Lee:
The
manufacturer of the Widea models, Oriental Toys in Hong Kong has
confirmed that they now have an agreement with the following company in Germany for exclusive rights to serve the countries Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and
Finland:
CARS & CO
Gartenstrasse 46
D-27404 Zeven
Germany
The models are currently not
available in the US but Oriental Toys also confirmed that they are talking to
potential distributors at the moment. Oriental Toys expects to finish
negotiations shortly and should then be able to tell us who their US dealers
are going to be. We'll post that information here as soon as it's
available. |

Widea Rally Fords
In late 2005 / early
2006 boxed sets of eight of the Ford rally-cars were sold in Japan as 'WRC Machine Collection'
under the Zacca PAP brandname. There seem to have been different sets, apart
from the models in rally-trim in the pictures at least the Ford Focus WRC model
has been available in white without prints.
